Lead Containment & Lead Removal by Spartan Services
Lead is a naturally occurring mineral ore that is primarily mined in south east Missouri for use in the U.S.. It is a soft heavy metal that is resistant to mold, mildew, and corrosion. Due to its ability to be easily shaped and its resistance to the environment it was used in many applications from glazes, gasoline, solders, molds, bullets, and paints.
The most common cause of Childhood Lead Poisoning is renovation activity in homes built before 1980, due to the use of lead based paint or lead based stains in these homes. Any sanding , cutting, or abrasion of these surfaces is likely to release the lead in dust form and cause it to easily enter the body through inhalation or ingestion.
Lead can also contaminate soil due to mining operations, from leaded gasoline that was used for several years into the 1970's, paint (banned for residential use in 1978), factory emissions, or flaking deteriorated exterior paint from old structures or homes.
